This event is part of Escapes, a new offering that gives you the chance to get down to your local cinema for free! Supported by the BFI, awarding National Lottery Good Cause funding.
Celebrating its 24th anniversary, Michael Winterbottom’s iconic film, 24 Hour Party People returns to cinemas with a 4K re-release.
Manchester 1976: Granada TV presenter, Tony Wilson, is at a Sex Pistols gig. Totally inspired by this pivotal moment in music history, he and his friends set up a record label, Factory Records, and proceed to sign a number of local bands destined to be some of the most influential artists of their time. First, Joy Division, who go on to become New Order; then come the Happy Mondays.
What ensues is a blackly comic tale of music, sex, drugs, larger-than-life characters, and the birth of one of the most famous dance clubs in the world, The Haçienda. Told through the eyes of one man who was in the centre of it all throughout, 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE graphically documents the vibrancy that made Mad-chester the place to be.
